Zootopia 2 has now raked in a whopping $1.137 billion worldwide - and that's not all, $877 million of that is coming from international markets, which is a staggering amount. This news broke when the folks at Deadline gave us an update - and let me tell you, it's a pretty big deal
Outside of the US box office, the main reason for this phenomenal success is China, where Disney Animation's Zootopia 2 has pulled in over $502 million, which is a seriously impressive feat and puts it second all-time in the country, only just behind Avengers: Endgame.
Looking at the numbers, in its third weekend on release, Zootopia 2 added another $131 million from international markets, with only a few slight drops in key markets like Japan, France, and Korea. It's worth noting that the film smashed the global billion-dollar mark in just 17 days - which is a record for a Hollywood animated film and for any PG-rated title.
What is the story behind Zootopia 2?
Well, after solving the biggest case Zootopia's ever seen, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, the rookie police officers, start to wonder if their partnership is as strong as they thought it was when Chief Bogo tells them they need to sign up for the "partners in crisis" therapy program. When they stumble upon a mystery involving a venomous snake turning up in the animal metropolis, it doesn't take long for their partnership to be put to the test - again.
What's the voice cast of Zootopia 2?
The original voice cast for Zootopia 2 is a seriously talented bunch, and it includes some big names including Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Live), David Strathairn (Good Night, and Good Luck), Macaulay Culkin (American Horror Story), and Brenda Song (The Last Showgirl) as the Lynxley family - who are one of Zootopia's most famous families.
Comedian Fortune Feimster (Crushing It) has joined the cast as Nibbles Maplestick - a beaver who's got a podcast all about the mysteries of reptiles, Idris Elba (Heads of State) is back as Chief Bogo - the respected leader of the Zootopia Police Department; Patrick Warburton (The Emperor's New Groove) voices Mayor Brian Winddancer - an actor turned politician; Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary) plays Dr. Fuzzby - a quokka who specialises in animal therapy; and Nate Torrence (Get Smart) is back as Clawhauser - the lovable cheetah receptionist at the Zootopia Police Department.
