The Wait is Over! Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol Anime Officially Announced

Advertisemen

After an eight-year hiatus that left fans clamoring for more, the Z-Fighters are officially returning to the small screen. At the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri 40th-anniversary event in Japan, Toei Animation sent shockwaves through the anime community by announcing the next chapter of the franchise: Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol.

Here is everything we know about the massive announcement that is set to redefine the Dragon Ball legacy.

Picking Up After the Tournament of Power

While Dragon Ball Super concluded its television run in 2018 with the epic climax of the Universe Survival Arc, the story has continued to evolve in the manga. The new anime series will bridge that gap, officially adapting the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc.

The story shifts focus to the depths of space, where the peacekeepers of the universe—the Galactic Patrol—seek the help of Goku and Vegeta. Their mission? To stop a terrifying new threat known as Moro, the "Planet-Eater." Unlike previous villains who relied purely on physical strength, Moro is an ancient sorcerer capable of draining the life force of entire planets, presenting a challenge that brute Saiyan strength alone may not be able to overcome.

A Legendary Collaboration: Toriyama and Hans Zimmer

In a move that surprised many, the 40th-anniversary project features a heavyweight collaboration. The late Akira Toriyama is credited for the original work, story, and character designs, ensuring the series remains faithful to his legendary vision.

The production value is also getting a massive boost in the sound department. Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer has composed a brand-new theme titled "Infinite Future" for the anniversary video, bringing a cinematic, orchestral weight to the franchise. Zimmer expressed his excitement for the project, noting that he drew deep inspiration from Toriyama’s iconic illustrations.

Teaser Visuals and What’s Next

The reveal was accompanied by a striking teaser visual featuring Goku and Vegeta sporting official Galactic Patrol uniforms layered over their traditional battle armor. This "Galactic Patrol" aesthetic marks a fresh visual direction for the duo as they take on their new roles as temporary peacekeepers.

In addition to the anime news, the event also confirmed a new video game project titled Dragon Ball: AGE1000, scheduled for a 2027 release, ensuring that the 40th-anniversary celebrations will extend well into the future.

When Can We Watch It?

While a specific release date for the first episode has not been locked in, the series is officially in production at Toei Animation. Following the conclusion of Dragon Ball Daima, this sequel marks a return to the "main" timeline that fans have been waiting for since 2018.

Stay tuned for more updates as we track the production of Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol!
