The trailer for 'Revolver Rita' starring the talented Keerthy Suresh has dropped and it looks like we are in for a crazy, wild ride that takes a sharp turn from straight action to just plain dark humor. Directed by the seasoned J.K. Chandru the film promises to deliver a crime comedy thats all about the characters, and the trailer does an awesome job of setting that up as well as setting up the intriguing contrast between dark & light we see in the film.
The Everyday Life Blooms into Explosive Action
But what really grabs your attention is the films pretty simple central idea: Rita, some middle class working-class woman leading a fairly ordinary life in Pondicherry who, unbeknownst to everyone around her, is carrying a whole secret of danger around with her. The trailer shows just how powerfully the norms of domesticity get tossed in the air & then this thing lands right back on your feet with explosive, high-octane violence - like her mom reminding her to do the grocery shopping & then she just goes to town & starts blasting people all over the place.
That action sequence where some local goons decide to steal her handbag & find a revolver, a blood-stained knife & a small bomb inside instead is a real showstopper - the way the fear shows on their faces as Keerthy Suresh walks in, straight face on, demanding that they give her back her handbag - & it's the way that everyday life & explosive action are all jumbled up that really cements the "dark comedy" in this film - making it feel like it's going to be a real wild ride with not a single scene like the last one.
Keerthy Suresh in a New Skin
Keerthy Suresh absolutely nails it in this role - this time as this hard-as-nails character - mass shade at its finest. She's already shown us how versatile an actress she is, from her very serious biographical dramas to all sorts of lighter comedy - now she's having a blast playing the action hero. The trailer shows her switching from tough, street smart woman to a formidable force all while keeping this undercurrent of wry humor & wit running - & the way she moves from one scene to another is just smooth. The action looks super stylish & well choreographed by Dhilip Subbarayan, so it seems like she is truly embracing this 'action hero' persona.
A Strong Cast and Top-Notch Technical Work
We also get a good look at the solid ensemble cast in the trailer - including veteran Radhika Sarathkumar as Rita’s mom - so clearly the family dynamic is going to play a big role in all the chaos . Supporting actors like Redin Kingsley add to that comedy in the film.
The film looks slick technically -Dinesh Krishnan B does a great job of showing off Pondicherry from its quieter streets to its grittier underbelly. Sean Roldan's music pops in at the end of the trailer, but its fast & engaging - matches the tone of the film's action & dark humor perfectly.
The Last Word
The 'Revolver Rita' trailer does a great job of setting the film as more than just a crime comedy - it promises a wild ride of chaos, crime & laughter all brought to you by Keerthy Suresh's amazing performance & if the movie delivers on all that the trailer has set up for us - a sharp script , & a fearless heroine who will go to any lengths to protect her own family - then this dark comedy could be a delightful watch for all of us.
