Tom Cruise and Inarritu, a dream team for the new film Digger!

Tom Cruise certainly doesn't like to sit still. Fresh from the demanding production of Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning, the Top Gun star has decided (hopefully!) to put aside planes and stunts for a moment to dedicate himself to Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's new film, Digger, announced just a few minutes ago!

The announcement of Digger came as a complete surprise with a short teaser showing the silhouette of a man (Cruise himself?) moving in a dance-like manner with a shovel in his hand (which must mean something, considering that "digger" means "excavator"): at the moment, we don't know anything else, except that, as the film's subtitle states, it will be "a comedy of catastrophic proportions".

But it's not just Cruise: the new film by the director of Birdman and The Revenant will also feature names like Sandra Huller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed, and Emma D'Arcy. Digger is scheduled for release in theatres on October 2, 2026. Who knows, guided by someone like Inarritu, Tom Cruise might even aim for an Oscar nomination in 2027 (a nomination for Best Supporting Actor has been missing since Magnolia, while for a Best Actor nomination we have to go back to 1997 and Jerry Maguire). We, of course, can't wait to find out more!
