George Miller's new film has been widely praised and called "a powerful action film at its absolute best." The first press reactions to George Miller's Furiosa have made their way online, ahead of the film's world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, and it looks like the Mad Max: Fury Road director has another stunning action epic on his hands!

The first reviews of Furiosa promise a worthy continuation of the Mad Max saga

“It gives me great joy to report that Furiosa is really, really damn good,” IndieWire film critic David Ehrlich wrote in X. “It works in an extremely different gear from Fury Road (in ways that I suspect will frustrate some people), but it also manages to make that film even richer, carving its own legend in the Wastelands.”

New York Film Critics Circle journalist Esther Zuckerman called the film "terrific," while Fandango's Erik Davis called the film "a powerful action film at its absolute best." “A ferocious, relentlessly paced epic that expands the story of Furiosa and the Waste Lands, while delivering the craziest chases, the most explosive characters, and simply stunning cinematography,”

Davis wrote. “Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth deliver incredible things. There's a War Rig sequence that left me speechless: an instant cult. I love Mad Max movies and I loved this movie. Start your engines!” Anya Taylor-Joy takes over from Charlize Theron for this prequel, which follows Furiosa as she is kidnapped from her home as a child by warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) and his biker horde and seeks revenge and a reunion with her family and his homeland.

Journalist Simon Thompson added: “Jesus George Miller! Furiosa overwhelms you. At times it almost seems to surpass the canvas of the IMAX format: it is SO big – and yet at times, it has a deeply touching intimacy. Echoing cinematic elements from the 1950s to the 1980s, it's a rich, intelligent vision in which the cast has fun.” Furiosa will be released in theaters on May 23rd by Warner Bros., following its world premiere in Cannes.
